One More Time - NEW
At the last City Council meeting it was unanimously approved to place myself and Councilman Tisdale on a subcommittee to interview city council applicants.
As you may recall, Amy Bhutta resigned last month. The position must be filled by within 60 days.
Rather than ask the taxpayers to shell out $70,000 for a special election due to the abrupt resignation, we instead appointed the subcommittee.
The suggestion was made to "narrow it down to 4 or 5 candidates", then it was suggested that no one was really "stuck on a specific number", and then it changed again to "narrow it down to four candidates".
The final motion was to bring back 4 candidates.
However, councilman Tisdale and I were able to narrow it down to two candidates we felt were the best for the job, and felt that decision would be supported.
Three (3) members of the public spoke against this decision and demanded that we bring forward 4 finalists instead of 2. The council requested that we bring back 4 names instead of just 2.
Therefore, Councilman Tisdale and I will meet again and add two more name to the list, in addition to the two already selected, as finalists for consideration by the entire City Council at the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting on September 13.

Because of 3 people, you're going to waste your time and repeat the process? You're probably going to end up picking the same 2 people again (and that's fine by me). I guess the squeeky wheel does get the grease. Just because those 3 members of the public "demanded" you bring back 4 names, didn't mean you HAD to. The City voted for you and Mr. Tisdale because we trust your decisions, policies, etc. and your choices should have been accepted, that's that. A majority of the people who reside in this town make me question why I even live here. I'm really starting to give up hope for this Diamond in the Rough city. You and Mr. Tisdale are perfectly educated people and you shouldn't waste time on selfish trouble makers who are trying to throw their weight around. Don't be intimidated by people like that because they're going to stop development and anything possitive in this town!
You sure are taking a beating over this entire matter, I am sorry that people can be so childish and disrespectful to those that are trying to make some positive changes for our community. Says alot for those that reside in LE and the changes that are so desperately needed.......hang in there!!!
We aren't actually repeating the process, we are just choosing two more names to add to the final list. Mr. Tisdale and I were entrusted with the responsibility of choosing the finalists, we were able to narrow it down to two. Unfortunately there are some conspiracy theorists in the city who thought there was some questionable reason as to why we didn't bring back four names.
The fact is, we felt the two we chose were pretty darn good choices. The motion we all voted on was to bring back four names. One person threatened to stall the whole process with litigation of some sort because we didn't bring back 4 names. Because we didn't want to further delay the process, we agreed to go back and select 2 more people.
I apologize for the delay in the process, I know there are people who are frustrated and disappointed. We have added Genie Kelley and Peter Weber to the list of finalists and will vote on who will be appointed on September 13th. Hope to see you there.
Stand your ground....there are a great deal of people in this town that don't like you and I was unaware of that. I only see you trying to do positive for the community and actually bring forward the truth of what actually takes place here. I feel that Genie has already had her turn on Council and did a great job, but let's all move forward and have someone with fresh ideas on the council, no going backwards, let's all move forward. A
