A Priest and a Rabbi Walk into a Bar - NEW

The title of this post is due to the ABSURDITY of a bill waiting for the Governor's signature.

Everyone remember when we passed the mandate of having to use E-Verify last year? Well, now a bill called the Employment Acceleration Act has passed the senate which will make our ordinance null and void.

This bill actually conflicts with the Legal Workforce Act, a bill pending in the U.S. House of Representatives that would require the use of E-Verify by ALL American employers.

So here we go again, California trying to forge their own trail and be seen as a leader. Problem is, they're leading us all around in circles.

The claim is that there are some "inconsistencies" with the program, or that it can lead to inaccuracies. Well, yes, I'm sure there are some inaccuracies. But then, my bank makes mistakes from time to time and we're not legislating they stop keeping track of our money are we?

Is there contaminated water in Sacramento that's causing this debilitating mindlessness? Is it that they're just being hacked by savvy IT guys and they're not really the ones writing these bills?

Because I like to save the best for last, Assemblyman Paul Fong of Mountain View sponsored the bill.
His contact info: Tel: (408) 277-2003 or Tel: (916) 319-2022

You should call him, I think he'd like to hear from you...and several hundred of your closest friends.

While I can appreciate you keeping us informed of what is going on in Sac I am more concerned about what is going on in my own town, several months ago you said that sidewalks were going to be installed down Riverside Dr. so the students don't have to walk in the street, when is this going to take place? You also said that there was going to be street repairs conducted in the City, I think Heald was one of those streets, when is that going to take place? Any chance of us getting any new retail stores in town, I'm really tired of driving to Temecula, Murrieta,Corona and Menifee for my shopping pleasure at Michaels, Ross, TJ Max, Home Goods, Marshals and Kohls? The City Manager says we need to shop locally....how about giving us somewhere to shop?

I had to delete my first comment, I found some changes in dates.

Regarding the sidewalk on Riverside - The specs were sent to the engineering firm on September 6th. Final plans and technical revisions were received by city staff. The City will start advertising the project for bid this week is scheduled for the week of October 10th. Once that bid process is complete construction will begin.

For Heald and Sumner rehab - Specs were sent to the design firm on September 6th as well, and advertising the project for bid is scheduled for the week of October 10th as well. Construction should start by year's end, I will verify dates with staff.

I'm tired of you driving to Temecula too! :) I wish I could say it's going to happen soon, but expansions have been stagnating most places. It's really hard to get construction loans, or any other type of loan for that matter. We will keep trying until we get results.
The Outlets have been sold, and I am scheduling a meeting with the new owner to see what his plans are for the center, ie: filling the empty suites.

Thanks so much for getting back to me, it is appreciated. I would be anxious to hear what the new owner of the Outlets has in store for us. I sure hope he's as generous as the previous owner that supplied space for Christmas Tree Lane last year :) FYI I personally contacted the Corporate offices of Ross, TJ Max also owns Marshalls and Home Goods, to inquire why we do not have a store here, they said that they were never contacted by anyone from our City to build or open stores here? Thanks

Hi there...did anything positive come out of your meeting with the new Outlet Mall owners, like maybe some new and exciting places to shop or eat??? Thanks

Diana not sure who you talked to at the HQ for those stores, but I've emailed them and I'm sure our Chamber president has contacted them too. When I contacted them and several others they said they were not "looking to expand" at this time due to the economy. I hate that answer.

d - the meeting with the Outlet owner is scheduled for next week, so think positive vibes!!
